Malik Amber, a slave from Abysinia as well as the Prime Minister of King Murtaza Nizam Shah(11) of Ahmednagar is the founder of the city of Aurangabad. History has forgotten him. Khadke or large hill was renamed as Fatehnagar after his son's name in 1610. However, along with the founder, the old name of the city has also be forgotten today. In order to resist the Marathas in 1653, Mughal Prince order to resist the Marathas in 1653, Mughal Prince Aurangzeb landed in Aurangabad as the Viceroy of the south.

 

It became the principal centre or the main office of the Viceroy and it course of time it became a Mughal capital. The name of the place changed from Fatehnagar to Aurangabad-after his own name.

Hemmed in by hills on all the four side, the city experiences a moderate climate through out the year beacuse of its geographical location.
